Although I’m a little behind on picking up the ball on this one, I’d like to take a chance to review WoW Schools Reaching the Gold Cap course. I really enjoyed this guide because it’s really the first of its kind as it is actually a gold course instead of a gold guide.
_____
Introduction
WoW Schools was once a very exclusive community only open to gold farming businesses. Recently made available to the public, the quality seems to be a lot stronger than competitive courses–probably because of its background as a professional community. Don’t think it’s all serious business, though, because the course is laid out in a very conversational tone and its author, John Hunter, will have you laughing before the end of the first lesson.
Right from the start of the course, John lays out the direction that the course will be taking. Without any hesitation, he tells you the two basic facts of gold making straight up–the first one being that grinding will drive you to insanity and the second being that professions alone don’t make anyone rich.
This guide focuses on the Auction House, the heavy weight champion of the gold making world.
Those Pesky Add-Ons
Okay, it’s not exactly a secret that add-ons can make your life way easier when dealing with the Auction House, but I bet there’s a lot of add-ons that you might not even know about. Everyone knows that Auctioneer is your secret weapon, but what about Postal, which will keep you from getting carpal tunnel from checking your auction house mail–or Market Watcher that will keep you up to date with your server’s market trends?
The very first part of Wow School discusses the different add-ons that can make your life easier, and I was surprised at just how much I was missing out on (particularly Market Watcher in my case). My gold making strategies have been greatly simplified just by a few new tools.
Going From Zero to Hero
Most gold guides will tell you that you can start making gold at the auction house from level 1 but leave it at that and expect you to figure out the rest of this magical process. WoW Schools starts off assuming you have zero gold (and are anywhere between level 1-80) and teaches you how to reach the gold cap.
I tested it out on a lonely level 5 character on a new server. After selling my starting equipment, I had just a few silver. Using the resale search in Auctioneer as WoW Schools instructed, I quickly turned a few silver into a few gold, and then a few gold into a few hundred gold. How’s that for alchemy?
The Art of a Good Sale
Out of all the gold guides I’ve used, somehow I’ve never really seen this topic covered in great efficiency. One of my favorite lessons in WoW Schools deals with how to recognize good deals and how to give good deals to other players. It’s really important to know when you can undercut people in the auction house and how much you can undercut by. If you just constantly undercut other sellers, reselling merchants will snipe your auctions and relist them for what they’re actually worth.
Also, sometimes undercutting people isn’t the answer because you just can’t undercut enough to make it look attractive. After using WoW Schools, I’ve also come to the conclusion that the trade channel can really be a goldmine if you know how to use it right (I’ve been guilty of more or less avoiding the trade channel unless I was looking for rares).
Using the trade channel to quickly go from hundreds of gold to thousands of gold (that I later reinvested in the Auction House to make even more gold). It can be a little tedious, and it’s not what I would call “necessary” for your gold strategy, but I do believe it is a largely underrated form of flipping items.
Too Much Gold
At some point during using WoW Schools, I wasn’t really even worried about hitting the gold cap as I had almost too much gold to even bother with counting. If you’re seriously going for the gold cap, the last little bit of the guide is pretty much rinse and repeat. The more gold that you have, the easier it is to make even more gold, and soon your trades are paying off tripple and quadrouple what they were the day before.
One of my new favorite techniques that I have learned from this guide is paying people to work for me. While I was reviewing this guide, I was also trying desperately to hit the big 80 mark in preparation for Cataclysm. This meant I really didn’t have a lot of time to farm for gold, and this brought about a whole new realm of possibility that I had never considered before.
Basically, WoW Schools tells you how to leverage players that have a certain profession to make a ton of gold using their skills. This can save you time with your cooldowns and can even lead to doubling your profits if you decide to add your own players in with the mix.
In the End
I think this is one of those rare gold guides (erm… gold course) that I can recommend to anyone and everyone. The content is well laid out and it’s a formula that you can follow whether you’re level 1 or level 80. The strategies are great, and it pretty much covers all your bases for making gold with the Auction House. Unlike a lot of other guides, John isn’t afraid to get specific and let you know all the knitty gritty details of his techniques.
With a 60-day money back guarantee, there’s not any reason to miss out on trying this guide. I’m sure you’ll find it as eye-opening of an experience as what I did.
