Almost any player that has been successful at making gold will tell you that the best strategy for financial success in the world of Azeroth is to use the Auction House. I’m not going to tell you any different, because it is definitely the easiest and most dependable way you can make gold in the game. However, making gold with the Auction House can become difficult if you’re on a low population server.
The problem with making money through the Auction House is that you depend on the fact that there are actually buyers out there. If you are selling stacks of mats at a time on a low population server (and someone else is doing the same), you can quickly flood the market with unneeded supplies.
So the worst that can happen is that you lose your auction fee and they don’t sell, right?
Unfortunately, flooding the market does a lot more harm than that. It can drive down the price of an item to the point to where it’s no longer even worth it to farm anymore.
So what are some gold farming tips for low population realms?
There’s a lot of different opinions on whether it’s possible to actually be successful at gold farming in a low population realm. Some players will just outright tell you that it’s not possible, but I don’t really think that’s the case. The key to surviving on low population servers is to be self-reliant. There’s some things that you may want (like top-level gear) that you’re just going to have to go out and get yourself—the Auction House just isn’t going to be able to help you.
Some rare mats like certain patterns and recipes just aren’t up for Auction—ever. I’ve successfully gone months trying to find just one pattern.
If all of this sounds pretty depressing, don’t worry. As frustrating as it can be on a low population server, there are more than a few advantages as well.
_____
Controlling a Market Has Never Been so Easy
It’s much easier on low population servers to control the markets that were impossible to buy out on mid to high level servers. As long as you’re not too unreasonable, it’s very easy to buy out all of a certain mat at the beginning of the day and monopolize the price for the evening. Out of all the gold farming tips I have to offer, this is easily the most important and easiest to implement.
_____
Trading Cross-Faction
On small population servers, it’s very common to find some real bargains on either the Horde or Alliance side. Sometimes, the Alliance Auction House will suddenly be flooded with a surplus of a particular item that’s easy for me to pick up and sell to Horde traders.
____
Price Resets
On low population servers, mats can dry up as quickly as they can surplus in the Auction House. It’s very easy and common for Auction House sellers to have a monopoly one day and then be left stockless and penniless the next.
If you are on a low population server, I advise you to think ahead and make sure you keep an eye on your stock. It can be the nudge that keeps you ahead of all of your competition.
_____
Less Competition
It’s not difficult to figure out that less players means less competition. It’s easier to grab deals and easier to make deals with other players when there are less people scouring the Auction House and preparing to snipe your auctions.
You have a much better chance of buying out items like epic gems—there’s not a lot of people on a low population server that can even think about investing in them, much less buying stacks of them.
Remember, sitting around reading gold farming tips all day still won’t make you a gold farming expert. You have to go out there, get your hands dirty, learn from your mistakes, and make some gold before you will ever become successful. Don’t worry to much about failing, because failure is a necessary part of the learning process!
