Fishing for Easy Gold : The Relaxing Way to Farm Gold

One profession that a lot of players are overlooking with the advent of Cataclysm is fishing. For most players, this profession is either a hate it or love it way of making gold. I’d like to say that there’s some middle ground here, but it’s pretty much a dead stop between the two.

What a lot of players don’t know is that there has been some pretty nice changes in the world of Cataclysm—it’s still not quite “exciting”, but it’s a relaxing way to make gold while you’re chatting up your guild.

New Cataclysm Fish Farming Location

To begin a successful fishing expedition, you’ll need these skills:

  • Level 1 Fishing – of course, it’s a little nicer to have level 100+, but really all you need is to just know fishing
  • Level 500 Mining – you can get away with 475+ but it’s better to have 500 for the richer veins

The fishing spot that we’re going to be checking out is, of course, in the desert. To start out, head to Uldum and turn on Find Minerals and Find Fish (if you have it, level 100 is needed for this). If you don’t have level 100 fishing yet, refer to the map above so you can find the right location.

The North Western oasis is your first stop—this area is rich with Blackbelly Mudfish Schools. The spots that I have found that they appear in the most is also included in my nifty map—your milage may vary, but I seem to have the best success in these “sweet spots.” There is generally very low competition in this fishing zone, and you can easily grab 3-6 fish from each pool.

The great thing about this area is that you won’t be catching junk, even if your fishing is only level 1.

After exhausting the fishing nodes, it’s time to do a little mining while we wait. Hop on your mount and head South West towards the spots circled on the map. This area is a nice little sweet spot that you can easily find 4-6 nodes nestled together. If you’re lucky on the timing, it’s not very difficult to net a solid double stack of Elementium in one go.

Once exhausting the mining nodes, head back over to the oasis to do some more fishing. By the time you get back, the fishing pools will have respawned for the next rinse cycle.
As you can guess, the process is pretty much self-explanatory from here on out.

Fish a little, mine a little, and then rinse and repeat—easy gold.

I’m sure most of you reading this is probably wondering something along the lines of “Sure, this sounds easy enough, but how much gold does something like this really make?”

The answer may surprise you! It takes me, on average, about 10 minutes to hit the hotspots and start again (unless I get distracted while chatting or some other nonsense). With this 10 minute cycle, I’ve been able to net at worst one and a half stacks of Elementium ore and one stack of Mudfish.

That’s about 250g per ten minutes, and about 1500g per hour. It’s not an insanely large amount of gold, but it’s easy, brainless, guaranteed gold that you don’t have to put a lot of work into.
